Several days before, I’d seen this gentle, solicitous sow
transport a newborn kit by mouth from one tree cavity to another.
Then one day a high lonesome cry filled the air,
answered only by a soothing reply, encouraging the youth to venture forth
on trunk and limb, which it did, eventually, with trepidation and a helping paw…
leaving them both exhausted and ready for a long afternoon nap
in the shelter of their leafy home.

In the cool of last night’s yard, I watched a little raccoon shuffle by in the grass — one of these, perhaps?

Loved this. You are so lucky to have such wonderful wildlife so close at hand. They look like amazing little characters as well. The little one especially was gorgeous and a joy to watch.
Bright Blessings

So right, Debs. These two must have gotten back on their nocturnal schedule. I haven’t seen or heard from them in days.

I love that last shot–LOL Great video of that busy little one. Mama appeared to be keeping an eye on you.

Yep, she was keeping tabs on me, and then she really conked out. Her leg just stuck out of the hole like that for a few hours.

Just like any new mother, there’s not enough sleep to be had.

Wonderful creatures! 🙂

Yes, at times like these, it’s easy to forgive what they do to the trash!

That’s sure better than watching TV. Enjoyed!
June 22, 2014 at 11:03 pm
Indeed. And now the lightning bugs are out!

Do you look for the different flashing patterns? I used to and it was so fascinating.
June 22, 2014 at 11:13 pm
I tried charting them one summer and was able to differentiate some of the various flashing patterns. I could never be sure in the end which species I was looking at, but it was fun, and eye-opening just to know that there are different sorts of fireflies out there.
Here are the pictures I took:

I saw one once that spiraled downward.

very nice pics… I am having little skunk issues her at home. Trying to figure out what to do! I haven’t seen their mother and they are beginning to wander and I am afraid of the road.
June 22, 2014 at 7:07 pm
That is a quandary. Wish I could offer some insight, but I’ve never even seen a living skunk in the wild. Hopefully, mom will show up after all.
June 22, 2014 at 6:18 pm
What a rare treat! Now the little guy just has to figure out how to get down.
June 22, 2014 at 6:23 pm
I thought learning to walk was hard enough, but in a tree!? I just didn’t want to see anyone fall.
